New Alphabet Books with a Twist

Teach kids about letters and other concepts with these new alphabet books for kids!We love books that approach the alphabet in a fun and different way. F is for Fairytale

Written by Greg Paprocki

This board book pairs the letters of the alphabet with words that are often associated with fairy tales. Each page focuses on a different letter, with a large image of the letter in the corner and a short sentence at the bottom. The large, colorful cartoon illustrations take up most of the page, illustrating the concept defined in the text.

Active ABC

Illustrated by Nicola Slater

This board book introduces the letters of the alphabet in a very simple way, making it perfect for young kids just learning their letters.  Each page features a different letter of the alphabet with large letters (both upper case and lower case) highlighted in colorful patterns, and indented in the page so kids can trace their fingers over them. The simple text includes one word per page starting with the highlighted letter. The accompanying image illustrates the concept on the page through cute and colorful animal characters.

Alice Ate an Apple

Written by Anne-Marie Labrecque and illustrated by Mathieu Dionne St-Arneault

This book introduces the alphabet to young readers in a variety of ways. The beginning of the book explains how the letters of the alphabet each have a name, a sound, and different forms (uppercase, lowercase, and cursive). Each letter is then highlighted on a two page spread, with each form of the letter appearing on the page along with a large, colorful illustration, and a sentence highlighting the letter several times. Each sentence includes a small icon showing how many times the letter appears in the sentence, encouraging kids to try to find them all themselves. The back of the book includes the answers on where the letters can be found.

ABCs of Calm

Written by Rose Rossner and Brooke Backsen and illustrated by AndoTwin

This brightly colored board book introduces the concept of mindfulness through the letters of the alphabet. Each letter is paired with a simple word that is illustrated in the cute cartoon illustrations. The rhyming text flows throughout the book, making this a soothing book to read aloud. The book ends with a calming statement, and simple instructions for mindfulness activities.

ABC of Feelings

Written and illustrated by Bonnie Lui

This colorful exploration of feelings pairs the letters of the alphabet with all kinds of emotions, ranging from Anxious to Zany. Each letter is highlighted with a simple sentence pairing the letter and emotion, and a sentence defining the emotion. Kids will enjoy the colorful illustrations showing a diverse cast of kids experiencing the emotions through situations that they will recognize. This is a great way to give kids a vocabulary for their emotions.

ABC, Rise Up and Be!

Written by Annemarie Riley Guertin and illustrated by Sandie Sonke

This inspiring alphabet book pairs each letter with a character trait, from accepting to zestful. Each page includes a simple sentence explaining the featured trait, as well as a cute cartoon illustration featuring an inspirational person who personifies the trait. The front and back covers of the book feature a guide to the influential people featured in the illustrations, with a small snippet about their life and influence.

E is for Environment: The ABCs of Conservation

Written by Lucy Curran and illustrated by Francesca Rosa

This informational alphabet book explores the concept of conservation through 26 vocabulary words paired with the letters of the alphabet. Each letter is highlighted through a different word, which is defined on the page and illustrated in the detailed images. Kids will love exploring the illustrations and learning about the different habitats and resources on the planet, and the troubles that are facing them. This is a great beginner guide for young conservationists.

A is for Oboe: The Orchestra’s Alphabet

Written by Lera Auerbach and Marilyn Nelson and illustrated by Paul Hoppe

This alphabet book introduces readers to tons of music vocabulary through a simple story about an orchestra playing together. The letter A is highlighted as the first note heard in the concert hall, and each letter after is paired with an instrument, a music term, or other word starting with that letter. Each letter is addressed in a lyrical paragraph, paired with swirling, colorful illustrations highlighting the different instruments and people in the symphony.
