Christmas Cookies Around the World

Christmas is celebrated in countries all over the world, but we all celebrate it a bit differently. I have always been fascinated with the various traditions and symbols of the holiday season. I even taught an entire unit plan about winter holidays when I was student teaching. Baking cookies is one of my favorite traditions of the holidays, and it is one that is common in many of the countries that celebrate. I have such fond memories of baking with my mom when I was younger, and I love being able to pass this tradition on to my daughter, and to see her enjoy the same tradition with my mom as well. Today we take a look at some of the ways that Christmas is celebrated around the world, and the sweet treats they enjoy! Read More!

I have also made it a tradition to purchase a new Christmas book for my daughter every year. This year, I was thrilled to be introduced to the beautiful personalized children’s books from Put Me in the Story, and I am so excited that they offer fun Christmas books! Legend of the Poinsettia

the-legend-of-the-poinsettiaThe Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola is a beautiful story telling the legend behind the beautiful red flower we see throughout the holiday season. In the story, Lucida is a young girl who is excited to help her mother weave a new blanket for the Baby Jesus and the Christmas procession in her village. When her mother falls ill, they are unable to make the blanket and Lucida worries that she will not have an appropriate gift to give. After receiving a comforting message from an old woman outside, Lucida carries an armful of weeds into the church. The weeds become beautiful poinsettia flowers and prove the old woman’s point – that any gift can be beautiful because it is given. This is a great message to share with kids during the Christmas season! Read More!
