What Does It Mean to Be American?

Written by Rana DiOrio & Elad Yoran and illustrated by Nina Mata

This cheery children’s book uses a conversational text and adorable illustrations to introduce the topic of American citizenship to young children. The book starts by asking the reader if being American has to do with fast food, apple pie, and other well known symbols. The illustrations show two parents and their daughter as they explore all of the things that represent America and the American dream. The artwork is full of diverse characters, both in the main family and in the many people that they meet. This book is a great way to inspire kids with the potential that we have as a country, and to show them the ways that they can add to the nation’s future on their own.
