My parents raised my sister and I to believe that we could do anything. I want my daughter to grow up believing the same. So in addition to trying to be a great role model for her, I am always looking for books that share stories of inspirational women that she can look up to. From women in government to women who took a stand, these are all remarkable women that I want my daughter to know. There are some wonderful books about women in history, and this list includes some of our favorites right now.

Young adult fiction gets a bad rap sometimes. People assume YA books are full of over the top teen angst and ludicrous plots. And I can understand a bit. I’ve read my fair share of disappointing melodramas. A few years ago, I decided to dig back into the YA world, and I was shocked by the fantastic stories I discovered. Engaging plots, with well-rounded characters and fun creative twists, these books reminded me why reading is so much fun. It is a natural escape from our everyday lives. The world of YA can seem a bit muddy, so I created a list of books that you will enjoy based off of some of your favorite “adult” novels.
Did you have an influential librarian in your life? I vividly remember visiting our school library as a child, and I have lots of memories of our librarian. There are several books that I remember her reading to us, and I now enjoy reading them to my daughter.
