Check out these new children's books about dinosaurs!

Lots of kids and adults are fascinated by dinosaurs. (Hence the success of the Jurassic Park franchise!). We love learning about dinos, so we were excited to read these new children’s books about dinosaurs!

The Very Hungry Dinosaur

Illustrated by Monica Garofalo

This adorable board book follows Blue, the T. rex, and more little dinosaurs as they escape their pens and make their way around Jurassic Park. The hungry little dinos chomp on everything from berries to food carts as the text counts up from 1 to 10. In the end, they make their way back to their beds with full bellies, ready to say goodnight. Kids will love the adorable cartoon illustrations, and the bite marks in the corner of the book.

Little Kids First Board Book: Dinosaurs

Written by Ruth A. Musgrave

This fact filled board book introduces little readers to dinosaurs through simple, easy to read text. Each page features a different dinosaur, with large text offering a fact about the species, and a pronunciation of the name spelled out. Some pages include funny quotes in the illustrations, while others include facts or questions for the reader. Kids will love the interactive elements in the book, while parents will appreciate the bite sized information for young scientists.

National Geographic Readers: T. rex

Written by Andrea Silen

This leveled reader is packed full of interesting information about the Tyrannosaurus rex. It includes lots of nonfiction text features including a table of contents,  an illustrated glossary, and a picture quiz. The text uses large colorful headlines and caption boxes to break up the pages, making it easy for young readers to take in all of the information and not get overwhelmed. This is a great starter text for kids interested in dinosaurs and nonfiction text.

Kids will love the bite sized facts that they can share with others, making this a fun reference book to pick up again and again. The back of the book includes a pronunciation guide and index as well.

National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs

Written by Catherine D. Hughes and illustrated by Franco Tempesta

In this brightly colored reference book, kids can learn about dinosaurs big and small. The book starts with a table of contents showing how the dinosaurs in the book are divided up by size, from “Small Dinosaurs” all the way to “Gigantic Dinosaurs”. It also includes a guide on how to use the book, exploring the nonfiction text features on each page, including dino facts, a pronunciation guide, and dinosaur artwork. The colorful pages use large fonts, colorful headlines, and text boxes across the pages to introduce facts to kids in an easy to digest format.

Written by “Dino” Don Lessem and illustrated by Franco Tempesta

This dinosaur encyclopedia provides tons of information about all kinds of dinosaurs. The book starts with a table of contents, as well as a foreword by Darren Naish, paleontologist, and an introduction by “Dino” Don Lessem. There is also a guide on how to use the book, exploring the different sections and their purposes. The early sections cover all kinds of information about dinosaurs and the study of them, while the later sections profile all kinds of dinosaur species. There is even a dinosaur encyclopedia in the back of the book, which covers every dinosaur known to exist.
