Check out these new chapter books for reluctant readers from Macmillan Books!As Little Bookworm is starting to read more on her own, I have been looking at more early chapter books that will engage her and encourage her to want to read longer books on her own. So I was excited when we were given the opportunity to check out these chapter books for reluctant readers from Macmillan Books!

Doggo and Pupper

Written by Katherine Applegate and illustrated by Charlie Alder

This illustrated chapter book is the first book in a new series following three adorable animals. Doggo is an older dog, set in his ways, who lives with a cat and his humans. When Pupper shows up spreading messes and fun around, he changes the dynamic of the house. The story is broken up into 7 chapters, with brightly colored illustrations and a little text on each page.

Fitz & Cleo

Written by Jonathan Stutzman and illustrated by Heather Fox

This graphic novel for kids introduces readers to brother and sister ghosts named Fitz and Cleo. Through 11 illustrated stories, readers can follow along with the adventures of the funny ghostly pair. Join them as they go to the beach, make paper airplanes, eat ice cream, and more. Kids will love the silly conversations between the two main characters and the brightly colored illustrations.

Blue, Barry & Pancakes

Written by Dan and Jason

Join three friends named Blue, Barry, and Pancakes as they go on adventures together. The story is told through speech bubble dialogue and brightly colored illustrations. Kids will love the silly situations that the 3 friends find themselves in, whether they are tangling with a shark or meeting a spaceship full of aliens.

Jasmine Toguchi: Mochi Queen

Written by Debbi Michiko Florence and illustrated by Elizabet Vukovic

In this fun chapter book series, readers are introduced to Jasmine Toguchi – an 8 year old girl who is tired of living in her big sister’s shadow. When her older sister is invited to roll mochi balls with the women in the family, Jasmine is disappointed she is still considered too young. So she decides to join the men pounding mochi rice instead. Can she prove what she is capable of before New Years Day? The story is broken down into 13 chapters with black and white illustrations scattered throughout the book and a mochi recipe included at the end.

Stella Diaz Dreams Big

Written by Angela Dominguez

This chapter book for kids follows Stella Diaz, a fourth grader who has big dreams. In addition to her role as president of her school’s conservation club, she has started taking swim lessons and joined a new art club. But now she may have too much on her plate. As she starts to struggle with all her commitments, she needs the help of her friends to keep her dreams alive. The story is broken up into 22 chapters with a few small illustrations spread throughout the book.
