We are all looking for fun and accessible educational apps for kids, so today I’m sharing our review of the Samsung Kids+ app. They are even offering a deal now to help parents and kids!

I am all about giving kids access to lots of great reading materials and educational products. While I obviously believe in surrounding kids with physical texts for them to explore, I also recognize the ease and value of e-readers and tablets, and the huge amount of resources that they can offer. So I was excited when we had the opportunity to check out this educational app for kids.

I was a hard sell for e-readers many years ago. I didn’t think I could give up my physical books. But I was soon won over when I realized the large amount of books that I would have access to with an e-reader. (Don’t get me wrong, I still love my physical books, but I also add to my collection in digital form now too).

The Details

Samsung Kids+ provides a wide library full of books, educational games, and kid friendly shows and videos at your fingertips. All of the content is kid friendly, and includes some of their favorite authors and characters. They can practice important skills in reading, math, and science, with some of the characters that they already love. The monthly subscription is extremely affordable, especially considering the incredible amount of content included!

For parents, a big draw of the Samsung Kids+ app is the pin-protected Parents section. Parents can monitor the total time played each week, as well as the balance of subject areas that kids have interacted with. These tools are a great way for parents to keep track of their child’s screen time and set daily limits. They can also see the areas that their kids may need to focus on. With different user profiles, multiple kids can use the same app and parents can track each child’s individual usage.

The Books

Obviously my favorite part of this app is the children’s books! The library includes some of our favorite books including titles from Dr. Suess, Sandra Boynton, and Eric Carle. There are also titles from My Little Pony, Caillou, and Chuggington. Each of these books offers different ways to interact with the story. In addition to offering “Read to Me”, or “Read by Myself” options, the different apps also include opportunities to interact with the illustrations and expand on the story.

The Games

The games on the app include popular characters from Trolls, Chuggington, Spirit, Peppa Pig, and PJ Masks. Kids can solve puzzles, play with words and spelling, solve math problems, create artwork and more. I love the wide variety of educational opportunities available, and the various ways that the apps help kids practice important skills.

What My Daughter Thinks

My daughter loved that this app brought some of her favorite books to life. She liked touching the words in the books and having them read to her, as well as interacting with the illustrations to make them come to life. She is currently at a stage where she is exploring words and sounding them out, so the ability to touch the word and have it pronounced is a huge help to her. We read some of the books together, and I encouraged her to sound them out and then click on the words to double check.

She loves playing educational games, so she was thrilled with the wide variety available on the app. Since she loves doing puzzles and playing memory, she was excited that there were lots of opportunities to use her problem solving skills and memory skills. As kids do, she tends to want to play the same games or read the same books over and over again. But the huge amount of content gave her the opportunity to branch out and try new things as well.

What I Think

As a parent, I love educational games that encourage my daughter to explore and practice new skills. So I was thrilled with the amount of content available on this app. The parent tools also give me the opportunity to monitor my daughter’s screen time, which is something that I often worry about as a parent. I also appreciate that the tools show me what she is spending her time on and the subject areas that her favorite books and apps are covering. Even though I am usually playing it with her, the tools make it easy for me to see the gaps in the subjects we are covering. For the low monthly subscription fee, kids have access to tons of books and content that would cost a fortune if purchased one at a time.
