This tabbed board book introduces the reader to the characters of Rainbow Rangers, as well as the bright colors that represent them. The large tabs around the edges of the book are each attached to a two page spread that features a specific character and color. The text is simple, introducing the color name in a large font, and sharing the powers associated with each character. This is a fun way to introduce young ones to the characters in the story, as well as to color names.

Exploring Rainbows

We decided to explore rainbows using a flashlight and a variety of tools from around the house. First we took a CD and flipped it over so the shiny side was facing up. Next, we shined a flashlight on it and examined the different colors that appeared on it. Then we filled a glass with water and shined a flashlight through it to make rainbows appear on the wall. My daughter had a lot of fun creating rainbows on her own.

Making a Prismacorn Horn

Cut a semi-circle shape out of paper and roll it up to make a horn shape. Secure the ends with tape or glue. Punch holes in 3 sides of the horn, about 1 inch up from the bottom edge. In the two holes directly across from one another, tie long pieces of string or ribbon. These will be used to secure the horn to your child’s head. Gather a bunch of colorful yarns or ribbons, thread them through the remaining hole and secure the ends on the inside of the horn with tape or glue. Allow it to dry before tying the horn to your child’s head.

I also created a prismacorn tail for her by tying rainbow yarns to a ponytail holder. Cut two foot lengths of yarn and thread them through a ponytail holder. Fold the yarn so the ends meet and use another piece of yarn to tie a knot or a bow around all of the yarns near the holder.
