Summer Board Books Your Kids Will Love

Summertime is here! We have been enjoying the warmer weather around here, playing outside as often as possible and planning fun summer activities. As you are making your way through your summer reading list with older kids, don’t forget the littlest ones in your family as well. There are lots of fun summer board books out there to teach babies and toddlers about the joys of summer. I gathered this list of adorable board books to help you introduce them to the hottest season!

Interactive Summer Board Books

Baby Loves Summer (A Karen Katz Lift-the-Flap Book) was written and illustrated by Karen Katz. In another great addition to the Baby series, this one follows Baby as she finds signs and symbols of summer around the house. The bright colors and interactive flaps will keep kids entertained while they recognize signs of summertime.

Llama Llama Sand and Sun was written and illustrated by Anna Dewdney. This touch and feel board book shows the familiar little Llama and his mama as they spend a day at the beach, building sandcastles and playing in the water. The bright illustrations and rhyming style will be familiar to fans of the Llama Llama series. Kids will enjoy seeing their favorite llama enjoying the fun of a summer day at the beach!

Celebrate the bright colors of summer

Mouse’s First Summer was written by Lauren Thompson and illustrated by Buket Erdogan. This story follows Mouse and Minka as they explore some of the sensory experiences of summer. The author uses alliteration and descriptive text to paint a picture for the reader, while the illustrator uses bright colors to bring the adorable characters to life. Kids will enjoy the cute characters, while parents will like that the book reinforces color recognition.

Familiar Summer Activities

Summer (Bright & Early Board Books) was written by Alice Low and illustrated by Roy McKie. It follows a little boy and a little girl as they experience the joys of summer along with their dog. From riding bikes and eating ice cream, to catching fireflies and watching fireworks, there are many classic summer adventures that kids can recognize and look forward to. The simple illustrations and rhyming text make it a fun book to read aloud together.

Welcome Summer was written and illustrated by Jill Ackerman. This book follows a little girl as she experiences the sights, smells and sounds of summertime. From blowing bubbles to splashing in a pool, kids will recognize several of their favorite summer activities. Parents will enjoy the sweet ending as well!

There are lots of great books available to get kids excited about the fun adventures that summertime can bring. What are your favorite books to share as a family that celebrate summer? Share in the comments!
