Spring is here (or should be soon)! With the weather turning warmer, we are hoping to get outside more and take our learning outdoors. I am always on the lookout for quality products to introduce to my daughter and help us in our day to day activities. We need products that we can grab on the move, and that can hold up to our active learning. Babbleboxx provided us with the Just For Kids box full of cool products that will help us take our learning off the page!
I’ve always been interested in different learning styles. One of my favorite parts of studying education was coming up with different lessons to reach various learning styles. That passion spilled over to this blog, giving me a chance to come up with lots of different activities to inspire learning from a single book. I try to give my daughter lots of ways to practice any given subject. Recently, she has been showing increasing interest in letters and letter sounds. Since she is only 2 years old, I wanted to encourage her interest in a fun way that felt less pressured. Enter
I am always looking for different kinds of learning resources to use with my daughter. We read lots of books, take field trips, do crafts and activities, and also use technology to make learning fun. When I was in grad school, we did a lot of research on the benefits of using technology when teaching kids to read, and the topic has interested me ever since. I have previously talked about how allowing my daughter to have some screen time has actually
I am completely fascinated by all things related to space. I love reading about the space program and looking for constellations and planets in the night sky. My daughter also likes space and loves to point out the moon whenever she can. She talks to it sometimes and sings songs about the planets (
Reading to kids from the beginning of their lives is so important.
When I was in elementary school, I remember we participated in a competition where we were encouraged to come up with an invention that would solve a problem. We had to do research, create a plan and present it for a chance to win a prize. The competition sticks out clearly in my memory. Not only was it an opportunity to solve a problem we faced in our lives, but we were told that we, as young kids, had the power to create life changing inventions. I think that is such an important message for kids, so today I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce you to a wonderful author and her fun series of books which share the same vision!
Teaching kids to manage their emotions and monitor their behavior can be a difficult task. It can be hard to explain to them why certain actions are hurtful or will cause others to not want to play with them. My daughter is currently 2 years old, so we are spending a lot of time working on sharing, controlling our temper and learning to be a good friend. So I was really excited when we were introduced to this new series about teaching kids to get along and given the opportunity to check it out.
Music is a universal language. I love that music can elicit big emotions, and allow the imagination to soar. Music can be tied to art, movement, math, writing and more. Even before babies can talk, they can react and respond to music. There is so much they can learn from it. Today I’m excited to share some fun activities and a series of musical board books that encourage young kids to experience classical music in an exciting way.
Preparing your child for kindergarten can be a daunting task. You may be worried about your child mastering all of the necessary skills. There are lots of easy things you can do at home to prepare them for that first big day of school. We recently had the opportunity to check out a learning system that offers fun ways to help kids practice the necessary skills, while providing you with the materials to track their progress.
When it comes to shopping for Christmas gifts, I am always looking for special gifts that really mean something. Growing up, my parents always bought ornaments for my sister and I to add to our collection, and I continue that tradition now with my daughter. I have also made it a tradition to purchase a new Christmas book for my daughter every year. This year, I was thrilled to be introduced to the beautiful personalized children’s books from Put Me in the Story, and I am so excited that they offer fun Christmas books! I decided to gather a list of some of my favorites (as well as one which would make a great holiday gift for the grandparents!).
