Little Bookworm is newly fascinated with the Olympics, especially with Simone Biles. As a lifelong gymnastics and Olympics fan, I have had a lot of fun watching the games with her so far. But as always, I love finding a good learning opportunity, and Simone Biles is offering up plenty this year. We are thrilled to share some of our lessons learned from Simone Biles.

I love finding children’s books that encourage kids to try their hardest and do their best. So I was excited to check out these new picture books that teach kids to keep trying!

So we were excited to check out this adorable children’s book about a haunted house who worries that she may be too scary for a family to love. Will she be able to find a family who will love her? We had a lot of fun pairing this book with ghost activities for kids!

As annoying as the “why” stage can be, it is so important to stop and take the time to engage with your kids when they ask “why?”. So I wanted to share my strategies for dealing with the “why?” questions.
Homes can be all kinds of things, and no two homes are alike. As kids go out into the world and make new friends, they learn that people can live in all kinds of dwellings, and have different home lives. She is the first to run to help someone in need, and she often takes it upon herself to defend those who are being picked on. So I wanted to share how to use children’s books to teach empathy, and how we have made it part of our daily conversations.
Reading to kids 
Little Bookworm loves learning about different kinds of birds. We love watching the different birds that visit our neighbor’s bird feeder, and after her class watched baby chickens hatch, she became even more enamored with baby birds. So we were thrilled to check out these new bird books for kids!
